Then, out comes the food with real pork and a drinks menu filled with easy drinking Italian wines, limoncello and grappa, and you might again think twice about your actual locale. Described as value for money, your wallet will leave a little lighter and your tummy a lot heavier. The menu showcases an assortment of regional Italian wines perfect for enjoyment on their own or with dinner. Taking advisement from the owner, we began with an elegant San Angelo Pinot Grigio Toscana Igt, Tuscany Banfi 2010, a resonant, clean and fruity wine ideal for light fare. We ended very happily with a valorous Barberra D'alba Doc, Pio Cesare, Piedmont, 2008/09, strong, yet symphonious, with hints of plum, spice, blackberry and toasted tobacco. Coming from a line of country scone bakers with recipes being passed down through generations and having the champion community scone maker as my mother, I feel quite qualified to judge the worthiness of a scone. Best had straight from the oven, steaming hot so the butter melts off your knife, I'm yet to find a restaurant that is able to rival my mum in the scone making field. Putting my clear bias and high expectations aside, in terms of what is out there commercially the pastry chef at The Pressroom has done an admirable job. These scones are light, feathery and well risen. The jam and cream are adept complements to the moisture level and subtle sweetness of the dough. Awards for best chef for three years running and best maitre d' of 2011 had to be a good sign. Besides all of the prizes it was at the top of our local foodie friends' lists too. As you might imagine, with all of this prestige, it is pricey but in my opinion worth every cent. If watching your dollars, trying the lunch menu won't break the piggy bank but still allow you a sampling of their dynamic menu. For lunch you can choose two entre size plates and a glass of wine or beer for $40AUD. This is just what we did with the delicious results shown above. All of our selections involved seafood - perfect choice for an island nation. Although at first glance the servings look small on those oversized plates, in reality the food was so rich and bursting with flavour that the portions were more than satiating. Presentation, quality, variety and service were unbeaten on this trip. The indoor/ outdoor setting with large fans and potted plants is ideal for recharging and taking a break to plan your afternoon's acquisition strategy. This Italian, Steak and Seafood restaurant serves generous portions so do consider sharing. Meals are well cooked and hearty and there are enough options for everyone to be happy (actually it might take you a while to sort through the four! menus - one for Italian, one for steak, one for seafood and one for drinks and desserts).
